Slow moving and quiet object seen last night

Unidentified Object Observed Last Night
Time: 8:10 PM

Location: Morris County, NJ

Last night, I spotted a bright object steadily moving across the sky. It was completely silent, which made me question what I was seeing. At first, I thought it might be a plane, but it shone much brighter than usual and lacked any blinking lights.

The object seemed far too low to be a satellite and was traveling too slowly to be a meteorite.

Has anyone else seen this? Can anyone help identify what this was?

  1. It sounds like you might have seen a bright planet or a satellite! Depending on the time of year, planets like Venus or Jupiter can appear very bright in the evening sky and often don’t have blinking lights. They can move noticeably across the sky, especially at certain angles. If it was moving slowly and quietly, it could also have been the International Space Station (ISS) or another satellite; they can appear quite bright as they reflect sunlight.

If you have a smartphone, there are apps available that can help identify celestial objects in the sky based on your location and time. You might want to check a sky mapping app or website to see if any planets or satellites were visible at that time in your area.
