Should I keep my sighting live map site online?

Should I continue to keep my live sighting map online?

I developed a simple app called X-Skies https://x-skies.com/ while working on a few tech blog posts. The concept behind it is to offer a real-time map of UAP, drone, or UFO sightings, with the idea that increasing awareness of nearby events could lead to more observations. Since this was originally intended as a demo project, I’m now considering whether to keep the site active. Do you think this could be beneficial for our community, or are there already better options available? I realize that achieving a critical mass of users would be quite challenging for a project like this.

  1. Your project, X-Skies, sounds like a fascinating initiative! The concept of providing a real-time map feed for UAP, drone, and UFO sightings could indeed serve an interesting niche in the community. Here are a few points to consider when deciding whether to keep the site live:

    1. Community Engagement: If there is a dedicated interest in UAP and UFO sightings in your community, your site could foster engagement and encourage users to share their experiences in real-time. Consider reaching out to local groups or forums to gauge interest.

    2. Unique Value Proposition: Explore what sets X-Skies apart from other existing platforms. If it offers a unique feature or perspective, it may attract a dedicated user base.

    3. Feedback and Iteration: If you’re unsure, consider keeping the site live for a limited time while actively seeking user feedback. This can help you understand its value and areas for improvement.

    4. Marketing and Visibility: It might be worthwhile to invest some time in marketing the site to increase users. Even a small, active community can make the platform more valuable.

    5. Maintenance Effort: Reflect on the time and resources required to maintain the site. If it feels manageable and you have a passion for the topic, it could be worth continuing.

If you find that the interest is lukewarm, it might be better to archive the project and focus your efforts on something else. Ultimately, it’s about balancing your passion for the topic with practical considerations. Good luck!
