Can anyone help identify this?
I captured a small, laser-like light to the east of Ireland. It emits brief flashes of red and green, with only minor movements every 1-2 minutes. I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit for this, but I would appreciate any insights based on this (not great) image. Thank you!
It’s difficult to say for certain without more details or a clearer image, but what you’re describing sounds like it could be one of several things.
Distant Aircraft: The small laser-like lights and color flashing could be from an aircraft’s navigation lights, which often blink red and green.
Astronomical Objects: Sometimes bright stars or planets can appear to flicker due to atmospheric conditions, which might create the appearance of flashes of color.
Satellites: Certain satellites can reflect sunlight and appear as bright points in the sky. If they have a spinning structure or some other technical aspect, they might show color variations.
Ground-Based Light Sources: There could be lights from the ground, like radio towers, that project light into the sky and flash in different colors.
Laser Light Shows: If there are events nearby, it’s possible that a laser light show could produce similar effects.
To get a better understanding, consider checking flight tracking apps or astronomical websites to see if there are scheduled flights or visible satellites in that area. If you observe it again, try to document it with a clearer photo or video.
