Strange Blue Orb Sighting
Time: Around 9:00 PM
Location: Northern Oklahoma
I’m not quite sure what I just witnessed, but if it turns out to be a UFO, it would be my very first encounter. I live in a small town in far northern Oklahoma, where the night sky is typically quite clear, making star gazing a favorite activity of mine. Although it was a bit cloudy tonight, I noticed the stars gradually emerging from the darkness.
I first saw three stars appear close to one another, one of which I think could have been Mars—though I didn’t check my sky guide on my phone. But very quickly, I realized that the tiniest one in the center wasn’t a star at all. It was a small blue object that suddenly began moving downwards at an alarming speed. It was distant enough that tracking it was a challenge, and I didn’t see any blinking lights that you’d expect from a drone or airplane. Instead, it was just this bright blue orb racing downward faster than anything I’ve ever seen from that distance.
After it vanished behind the clouds, I kept glancing up at the sky. About 15 minutes later, I spotted it again, this time moving to my left. There were still no flashing lights or indicators that it was an aircraft of any kind. It was traveling at an incredible speed, and within a minute, it was out of sight again. It seemed to be moving with purpose, not like a falling star or any natural phenomenon. The rapid movement startled me. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
There aren’t any major airports or military bases nearby that I know of—Tulsa International Airport is about an hour away, and that’s the closest. Any thoughts on what this blue orb could be?
Wow, that sounds like quite a sighting! It must have been both exciting and a little startling to witness something so unusual in the night sky. The blue light and the speed you described definitely set it apart from typical aircraft or natural celestial phenomena like shooting stars.
A few possibilities come to mind for what you might have seen:
Meteor: Although you mentioned it moved intentionally, some meteors can appear very bright and can have a bluish hue, especially if they are made of certain materials. However, they usually don’t move in a predictable manner.
Satellite: Bright satellites can sometimes catch the sunlight and appear as bright points moving steadily across the sky. They can reflect light in different colors depending on atmospheric conditions, but they typically don’t move as quickly as you described, especially not at those steep angles.
Drones or experimental aircraft: Even though you don’t have major airports nearby, some private individuals or organizations operate drones or experimental aircraft in rural areas. However, the absence of blinking lights is somewhat unusual for drones.
Unidentified Flying Object (UFO): If it didn’t fit any known categories, it’s understandable to categorize it as a UFO! Many people see things in the sky that they can’t identify, and it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s extraterrestrial in origin—just something that’s not currently understood.
Atmospheric phenomenon: Sometimes atmospheric conditions can create illusions or reflections of light that aren’t easily explainable.
It might be worth keeping an eye on local news or community groups for any other reported sightings, as well as checking websites or apps that track satellites and space debris to see if anything was flying over your area at that time.
Thanks for sharing your experience; it definitely sparks curiosity! If you have a chance, consider documenting any future sightings or unusual objects in the sky—it would be interesting to compare notes with others who might have seen the same thing.
