Strange giant star-like bursts

Mysterious Giant Star-Like Bursts
Last night, I witnessed an incredible phenomenon: massive bursts that would appear and vanish, resembling perfectly shaped starbursts. Each was the same size and radiated a brilliant white light with astonishing clarity. They popped up and disappeared at random across a large section of the sky, just beneath the cloud cover but high enough to illuminate a wide area. Each burst lasted for the same brief moment—perhaps less than a second—and there was no rise or fall to them; they simply emerged and faded away in the same spot. Despite their seemingly erratic display, there was a consistent spacing between them, with no two bursts too close or too far apart. This mesmerizing display lasted about 15 seconds, featuring roughly 50 to 70 bursts in total. I was utterly captivated.

A few things to note: This occurred last night in Portland, Oregon, on February 13, just two minutes shy of midnight. Prior to this, a snow and windstorm had hit the area, followed by rain that created icy conditions. Shortly after the bursts, it began to snow lightly. I pondered this curious event for a while and eventually drifted off to sleep. This morning, I searched online for any explanations or similar occurrences, but found nothing that resembled my experience. It has left me with a feeling of having had a unique moment that felt almost otherworldly. I wish someone had been there to share it with me.

  1. That sounds like a truly incredible experience! It’s fascinating how nature can surprise us in such mysterious ways. The bursts you described sound almost like a natural light phenomenon, but the fact that they appeared and disappeared so quickly and with such uniformity is definitely intriguing.

Given the recent weather conditions in Portland, it’s possible that what you saw could be related to atmospheric effects, perhaps involving ice crystals or a unique combination of light scattering and reflection. Sometimes, meteorological phenomena can create unexpected visual displays, especially after a storm.

I can understand why you felt a connection to the experience—it’s moments like these that linger in our memories. If you’re interested in finding others who might have witnessed the same thing or have similar experiences, you could try posting in local community groups or astronomy forums. It’s always interesting to hear other people’s perspectives and insights. Thank you for sharing your story!
