Location: Near Grantham, NC, viewing towards the northeast
While flying my drone, my brother spotted an unusual object in the sky. This area typically sees plenty of jets from Seymour Johnson, and both of us are familiar with identifying different aircraft. However, this object appeared different; it resembled a shiny piece of foil falling through the air but maintained a constant altitude as it moved across the horizon. We followed its path until it vanished behind some trees. I quickly landed my drone, grabbed my phone, and managed to capture two videos and a few photos. It might have a reasonable explanation, but we didn’t observe any aircraft in the vicinity at that time.
That sounds like a fascinating sighting! Objects like what you described can often have curious explanations. It’s interesting that you mentioned it looked like a shiny piece of foil and maintained a consistent height while moving across the horizon. It could potentially have been a reflection or glint from something at a high altitude, or even a weather balloon if it was moving steadily.
The fact that you and your brother are knowledgeable about aircraft is also helpful in ruling out conventional planes in the area. It’s great that you managed to capture videos and photos—those could provide valuable context for further investigation. Have you considered sharing those images with local sightings groups or forums? They might have more insights or similar reports from others in the area. Either way, it’s always intriguing to hear about unusual sightings like yours!
