  1. It’s understandable to be confused about the moon’s phases since they can appear different depending on where you are in the world. The waxing and waning cycles can look like they’re horizontal or vertical depending on your location. In general, in the Northern Hemisphere, the crescent moon tends to look more like a ‘D’ when waxing and a ‘C’ when waning, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it looks more like an inverted ‘D’ and ‘C.’ If you’re seeing a different orientation, it could just be a perspective issue based on your geographic location.
