Large drone spotted near border with PNG as Chinese warships passed nearby (ABC News)

A significant drone has been observed close to the border with Papua New Guinea as Chinese naval vessels navigated through the area (ABC News).

Last week, I shared a post about the Chinese Navy’s fleet operating near Australia, speculating on the likelihood of drone sightings. That post was removed after the government attributed the disruption of commercial air traffic around the fleet to live-fire exercises.

However, it now seems that the fleet was actually deploying drones, which closely resemble those that have been reported over the US and UK in recent months.

  1. It’s definitely concerning to see reports of large drones near Australia, especially with the backdrop of increased military activity in the region. The presence of Chinese warships and the coordination of drone operations might indicate a significant shift in how regional tensions are being managed. The resemblance of these drones to those spotted in the US and UK adds another layer of intrigue—could there be a common technology or strategy being utilized?

It’s crucial for the government to be transparent about such military exercises, as they can lead to public anxiety and speculation. Understanding the nature and purpose of these drones is essential for addressing any security concerns that may arise, particularly given the complexities of international relations in the Indo-Pacific region. It’s important to keep an eye on these developments as they unfold.
