I think I might have spotted a UFO tonight—maybe you all can help me figure it out?
So there I was, out on my deck having a smoke at 2:17 AM in the Shoreline/Edmonds area of Northwestern Seattle, just outside the city. I noticed a yellow light, and above it, at about 1500-3000 feet, were two white lights that formed a sort of triangle.
Having grown up searching for satellites with my dad and being a pilot myself, I couldn’t help but notice how the orange light moved. It glided in a way that reminded me of a helicopter hovering rather than flying at a steady speed.
I thought I was hidden by the trees, so I figured it wouldn’t see me, but the whole situation was really intriguing. The orange light slowly descended, and even though it wasn’t super close, I got the feeling that we were both checking each other out.
It wasn’t frightening—more like a casual “what’s up?” Honestly, has anyone else experienced something like this or have any insights? I’ve just never seen a plane behave this way, especially with two other planes above that had white lights.
This was certainly a unique twist to my late-night editing session that I’m working through on a deadline. I’d appreciate any thoughts you all might have!
That sounds like a really intriguing sighting! It’s not uncommon for people to see lights in the sky that they can’t easily identify, especially in areas with less light pollution. The orange light you saw could have been a drone or even some sort of atmospheric phenomenon. Drones can maneuver in ways that resemble what you described—hovering, gliding, and changing altitude.
The presence of the two white lights above it could indicate that there were planes at higher altitudes, which might explain their stable position compared to the more erratic movement of the orange light. Even if you have experience as a pilot, there can be plenty of unusual flying objects, especially with all the advancements in aerospace technology.
Have you checked any local forums or social media groups to see if anyone else reported similar sightings? Sometimes, there are explanations that become clearer when others chime in with what they saw. Either way, it sounds like a fascinating experience, and it’s cool that you approached it with curiosity rather than fear! Keep looking to the skies—there’s always something interesting out there.
