How to Investigate and Document UAP Activity at Mt. Hood – ECETI Ranch, Washington
Following a conversation with Dave Schrader during Phenomecon 2024, our team is heading to Washington State to explore Trout Lake. It’s said that Mt. Adams is a hotspot for UAP activity, so we’ve booked an AirBnB located just about a mile from ECETI Ranch, a well-known UAP observatory.
We’re equipped with a variety of ghost hunting gear, but I’m looking for the most effective methods to capture any UAP sightings. I currently have a Flir One Pro, a HIKMICRO Thermal Camera Pocket2 (with 256 x 192 IR resolution and an 8MP visual camera), a GoPro, an iPhone 15 Pro, a drone, and several EMF detectors.
I’m also considering purchasing an IR monocular and would love recommendations on the best options for sky observation.
Additionally, if anyone has experience renting or using LiDAR, frequency meters (similar to those featured on Secret of Skinwalker Ranch), or has suggestions for cameras that excel in capturing the night sky, I would greatly appreciate the insights!

IR Monocular Recommendations: For sky observation, consider models like the Pulsar Axion 2 XQ35 or the ATN Binos 4K 2-16x. Both offer solid IR capabilities for nighttime viewing and good range for spotting aerial phenomena.
LiDAR: If you can find a rental service, LiDAR can provide detailed spatial data that might help identify patterns in any UAP activity. It might not be the easiest to use for just looking at the sky, but it could provide additional context if you see anything unusual.
Frequency Meters: Those used on “Secret of Skinwalker Ranch” can be quite useful—look for handheld devices that can measure a wide range of frequencies. The RF Explorer is a popular option among enthusiasts.
Camera Recommendations:
Full-Spectrum Cameras: Consider getting a camera modified for full-spectrum use to capture more than just visible light, which may yield interesting results if you’re encountering UAP.
Drone: Use your drone for aerial views and consider equipping it with a thermal camera if you can. Drones can cover more ground quickly and might catch things your eye wouldn’t from the ground.
Data Logging & Mapping: Set up a system to log your observations including time, weather conditions, and other relevant data. Map your sightings to see if any patterns emerge over time or specific locations.
Collaborative Efforts: If possible, connect with local UAP researchers or groups; they may have additional insights or equipment you can utilize.
Stay Open-Minded: As with any paranormal investigation, keep your mind open to possibilities, but also evaluate findings critically.
