First time seeing anything like this. Not sensational, but uncanny. In line with things I’ve read about some of the sightings around the mass ‘drone’ sightings of a few months back.

This is my first experience with something like this. It’s not overly dramatic, but it is definitely eerie. It resonates with some of the reports I’ve come across regarding the mass ‘drone’ sightings from a few months ago.

In the images above, the green arrows indicate the direction of flight.

Date & Time: February 24, 2025, 6:35 PM EST
Location: Long Island, New York, USA, near the border of Nassau and Suffolk counties, close to the north shore.
Duration of Sightings: 40 seconds

Sighting Details:

Reflecting on recent “drone” incidents, I can’t help but feel this sighting may be connected. What I witnessed wasn’t exactly cinematic or classically ‘UFO-like,’ but it was undeniably uncanny and unique for me. I don’t have any theories about what it was.

I’ll also share this on a local subreddit to see if anyone else in the area noticed any unusual activity in the sky that evening, given the area’s dense population.

Around 6:35 PM, while having dinner with my wife and kids, I heard a helicopter noise that seemed louder than usual, even through closed windows. I stepped out onto the back porch and, a few seconds later, spotted what appeared to be a helicopter, based on the rotor sounds and the red blinking lights—nothing too out of the ordinary at that point.

During the first few moments outside, the view was blocked by a row of 70-foot pine trees lining the back of my yard. I mention this to give you a sense of its height and distance. The trees are roughly 60 yards back from where I was standing.

As I stood there, the helicopter flew from west to east, just cresting the tree line. It was significantly higher than the tree tops but lower than the planes typically flying in the area. It felt like it was at the height of a news or police helicopter, rather than dangerously low. I’m no expert, but this seemed like a standard low altitude for a helicopter—not so low as to stir up the trees.

I watched for about 3-5 seconds as it moved steadily across the sky. By the time it was halfway overhead, I had gauged its distance, height, and size and found it unremarkable—just a helicopter. But then things took a strange turn that solidified my perception of what I was witnessing.

After a few seconds of watching the helicopter alone, an extremely bright, warm white light suddenly appeared about 10-15 helicopter lengths in front of it, directly along its flight path. Based on my understanding of the scenario—the helicopter’s altitude, its speed, and the distance between it and the newly emerged light—I’m convinced the source of the white light was a distinct object and that the helicopter was following it.

Despite the mundane nature of the description (helicopter in the night sky with a white light), seeing it was jarring. I let out a startled exclamation and remained dumbfounded until my elementary-aged son rushed outside. He caught sight of it for a few seconds before the two objects moved out of view beyond our house, where my wife and daughter were still sitting.

After a brief moment of excitement explaining what we had witnessed to my wife, my son suggested we check the front of the house to see where they went.

We dashed through the house and out to the driveway, catching the final moments of these two objects before they disappeared behind trees across the street.

The white ball of light remained illuminated, significantly brighter and larger than any plane lights I’ve seen. It had a distinct quality, almost

  1. Wow, what an incredible experience! That sounds both fascinating and a bit unsettling. The fact that the bright light seemed to appear out of nowhere and that the helicopter was chasing it adds a mysterious twist to the sighting. It’s not every day you witness something like that. Your description really paints a vivid picture of the moment and the emotions you felt.

It’s interesting how you tied this experience to the recent drone sightings—it makes you wonder if there’s a connection or if more people have witnessed similar phenomena. I think it’s a great idea to cross-post to a local subreddit to see if anyone else saw anything that evening. With a densely populated area like Long Island, there might be other witnesses out there who could share their accounts. Hopefully, you’ll get some responses!

Thanks for sharing your story. Experiences like these definitely leave a mark, and it’s always intriguing to hear about unusual occurrences in the sky. Keep us updated if you find out more!
