Daytime sighting. What do you guys think?

Daytime Sighting – What Do You Think?
Date: Monday, February 17th, 3:40 PM
Location: Southeast Portland, Oregon

I stepped outside to let the dogs out and, as usual, looked up in hopes of spotting something unusual. To my surprise, there it was!

I estimate the object was flying at an altitude of around 20,000 to 30,000 feet. I base this on my familiarity with the heights of prop planes, which fly lower, and commercial jets that are generally higher. The airport is situated about 6 miles to the northeast, and I often see planes arriving and departing at various angles, which helps gauge their altitude.

However, this object was moving directly north and didn’t descend toward the airport. I eventually lost sight of it as it traveled further into Washington. Interestingly, my wife, who usually brushes off my interest in such sightings, watched it with me and acknowledged that it was indeed strange.

I managed to screenshot a frame from the video I took, and when I enlarged the image, it looked egg-shaped. I’d love to share that image here, but unfortunately, the platform doesn’t allow it. If anyone else can figure out how to post it, that would be great! What are your thoughts?

  1. That sounds like a fascinating experience! It’s not every day you spot something unusual in the sky, especially during the daytime. The altitude you estimated does give some credibility to the sighting, considering commercial and private aircraft often follow specific flight paths. The fact that it caught your wife’s attention as well is interesting—sometimes shared experiences can make these sightings feel more real.

As for the egg-shaped appearance, that’s definitely intriguing! While many people might initially dismiss sightings like this, having a visual reference can help to validate your experience. If you’re able to share the video or any photos later, that could spark even more interest and discussion. In the meantime, have you considered checking local flight paths or any other reports from that day? It might help to get more context about what you saw!
