A concerning trend of AI-generated UFO documentaries on YouTube
I was browsing through some documentaries on YouTube tonight and couldn’t help but notice a significant rise in AI-generated content. It’s disheartening and frankly, quite disappointing!
Having a bit of experience in editing, I stumbled upon one particular documentary that felt more like a lecture than anything else. It was so obvious that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
I’m not in the industry, but is this becoming standard practice now? Picture over 90 minutes filled with an AI voice, AI-written script, AI-generated images, and videos edited with stock footage all created by AI.
It seemed like the AI took the script and matched it with stock footage that mirrored the exact phrases. For instance, at one point, it mentioned something about being “touching on a human level,” and right on cue, it cut to footage of a person touching the screen followed by someone smiling!
All the stock footage was generic, complete with chroma keying that inserted alien “elements.” There was even a segment about a protest for disclosure where every sign had “disclosure” misspelled, with words randomly fluctuating.
“Discloises”? Is that even a word? Maybe it’s a foreign term or something!
The funniest part? By the third act, the documentary relied on a bunch of AI-generated images, almost like the program ran out of funding and could only scrape together some pictures.
I’ve never encountered anything like this before. It’s astonishing that YouTube doesn’t have filters to weed out this kind of content. Why would they? It’s a real blow to genuine filmmakers, isn’t it?
Sure, there have always been fake UFO videos and photos, but now we’ve reached the point where they’re creating entire fake UFO documentaries!
It seems like this has been happening for years already…
2025! What a joke!
I totally understand your frustration! It’s concerning to see a rise in AI-generated content, especially when it lacks the depth and authenticity that real filmmakers bring to the table. Documentaries, by their nature, are meant to educate and inspire critical thinking, but these AI creations often miss the mark.
The examples you mentioned about the AI just regurgitating stock footage to fit the script are pretty wild. It’s almost like they’re mechanically piecing together a narrative without any real understanding or nuance. And the misspellings? That’s just a whole new level of cringe!
As creators, we put a lot of heart and effort into our work, and it’s disheartening to see AI churning out content that can dilute what genuine filmmakers strive to achieve. YouTube really needs to step up and find ways to curate content better. Otherwise, we risk losing the value of thoughtful storytelling in the sea of generated noise.
Here’s hoping that audiences start to recognize the difference and support real, passionate work over generic AI output. And who knows, maybe this trend will spark a renewed interest in authentic documentaries!
