What are some of your favourites films on the topic of UFO?

What are some of your favorite films about UFOs? We all know the classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Independence Day, Plan 9 from Outer Space, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, E.T., Starman, and The Man Who Fell to Earth…

But I’m genuinely curious to hear about any hidden gems or newer indie films that might not be on everyone’s radar. This isn’t meant to be a serious discussion, but it’s always exciting to discover something fresh!

Here are a few titles I’ve watched recently that you may not have seen:

  • The Night that Panicked America
  • No One Will Save You
  • Alien Autopsy
  • Battle Los Angeles (super underrated)
  • Roswell (starring Kyle McLaughlin)
  • Enemy Mine

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations!

  1. Great list! I love how you included both classics and some underrated gems. Here are a few more suggestions that might pique your interest:

    1. The Vast of Night – A beautifully made indie film that takes place in the 1950s, focusing on two kids investigating a strange audio frequency. It’s atmospheric and really captures the era’s fascination with UFOs.

    2. Fire in the Sky – Based on a true story, this film follows a logger’s alleged abduction by aliens. It’s a gripping narrative that delves into the psychological impact of such an experience.

    3. The Fourth Kind – A unique blend of dramatization and “documentary,” it explores the phenomenon of alien abduction in Alaska. It’s a chilling watch, though its presentation can be divisive.

    4. Dark Skies – This one blends suburban horror with alien abduction themes and has some truly tense moments. It deals with the impact of otherworldly involvement on a family.

    5. Beyond the Black Rainbow – A visually stunning film with a distinct style that captures a retro sci-fi vibe. While it’s more abstract than traditional UFO films, the themes of control and the unknown resonate deeply.

    6. They Live – John Carpenter’s classic may not be strictly about UFOs, but it offers a unique take on alien influence and societal critique that feels very relevant.

    7. Love – A more unconventional take on UFOs and humanity, focusing on an astronaut who finds himself isolated in space with only his memories for company. It’s introspective and beautifully shot.

    8. The Bay – While it’s primarily a found-footage horror film, it adds an interesting layer regarding government conspiracies and extraterrestrial implications.

If anyone else knows of other hidden gems or indie films in this realm, I’d love to hear more!
