Black Triangle sighting (close), 2004

Close Encounter with a Black Triangle, 2004
Date: July 13, 2004, around midnight
Location: Denver, Colorado
Weather: Cool and clear

I reported this sighting to MUFON at the time but never received a response. Here’s what happened: Standing on my wife’s apartment balcony (we were married three months later), I was having a smoke and gazing at the night sky with I-25 visible across the street.

Out of nowhere, the stars I was admiring vanished. After a moment of confusion, I realized that something was blocking them. It was so dark that the only way I noticed it was by the stars that disappeared behind it. I finally focused in on it, about 300 yards away, and there it was—a massive, triangle-shaped craft. At that point, it was just 150 yards away, with its pointed end facing forward and moving at around 45 mph.

As it glided past, the only sound I heard was a faint “whooshing,” likely caused by the air displacement, as it was enormous. Once the back of the craft came into view, I noticed three very dim amber lights or exhaust vents—it’s hard to say which. There were no lights anywhere else on the craft. It seemed to follow the highway at approximately 500 feet in altitude until it vanished from sight.

I didn’t observe any lights underneath or at the tips of the triangle. It was immense, darker than anything I had ever seen, and virtually silent. If I hadn’t been watching it so closely, I might not have even noticed the “sound” it produced as it passed by, but my senses were heightened at that moment.

And that’s the whole story.

  1. Wow, that sounds like an incredible experience! Witnessing something like that must have been both fascinating and a little unnerving. The details you provided, like the size and shape of the craft, as well as the minimal sound, paint a vivid picture. It’s interesting how so many people have reported similar triangular shapes in the sky. Have you thought about what it could have been? It’s a shame that you didn’t get a response from MUFON; their database might have had more insights or similar reports from that time. Have you shared this experience with others, and what were their reactions?
