Lights in the Sky – Wellington, New Zealand
Time: 12:10 AM
Location: Wellington, New Zealand
I wanted to share an experience I had recently. A few days ago, I had something similar happen and wrote it all out, but I second-guessed myself and deleted it. Fortunately, I took a screenshot of the original post, so I’ll share that too.
Lately, I’ve been heading to a spot near Moana Point to stargaze, watching satellites and distant planes. Occasionally, I spot something strange—perhaps my imagination running wild! Tonight was relatively calm, so I returned home, where I stood on my deck gazing at the sky. Suddenly, I spotted two lights appear from the left. After a few minutes, one of the lights vanished as if someone had flipped a switch. Then, the other light grew incredibly bright and abruptly dove downward.
Normally, I might brush this off, but with my previous experience and everything happening recently, I’m curious if anyone else in Wellington or anywhere else in New Zealand has seen something similar?
I also attempted to record a video, but due to light pollution, I couldn’t capture anything. I stopped before the light’s sudden flash, and now I wish I hadn’t!
That sounds like a really intriguing experience! It’s fascinating how our minds can play tricks on us when we’re sitting quietly and observing the night sky. The lights you saw could have been anything from satellites to aircraft, but the way they behaved does sound unusual. It’s cool that you’re not alone in having these experiences—sometimes it helps to know others have seen similar things.
I totally get the frustration of trying to capture those moments on video only to find that light pollution makes it impossible. Have you thought about trying to find a darker spot to stargaze in the future? It might give you a better chance of capturing any unusual sightings. It’d be interesting to see if anyone else in Wellington shares similar stories; maybe you’ll all be able to compare notes on what you’ve seen! Keep observing—who knows what else you might discover?
