Group of Orange Lights Observed in NC

Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Charlotte, NC

Has anyone else seen these? They weren’t ordinary airplanes. The lights were very bright and moved quite slowly. I noticed them near Ursa Major before they vanished behind the treetops before reaching Orion. I managed to capture just one on camera, but there were about 4-6 of them traveling together at one point. Any idea what they could be?

  1. It sounds like you witnessed something quite intriguing! Those orange balls of light could be a few different things. One possibility is that they were drones, as they can often look unusual at night, especially if they’re equipped with bright lights. Another possibility is that they were lanterns or fireworks; sometimes people release lanterns for special occasions, and they can appear to move slowly in the night sky.

If they were moving in a controlled formation, that leans more towards being drones rather than balloons or lanterns.

Sometimes, people also report seeing military flares or even rare atmospheric phenomena. Have you checked social media or local news for any reports of similar sightings at the same time? It might help to clarify what you saw!
