Unusual Aerial Encounter: Observations of a Mysterious “Swimming” Drone
On the evening of December 11th at approximately 6:00 PM, I experienced an extraordinary aerial observation that has prompted me to share my account for further reflection and analysis. What I witnessed was a uniquely organic, non-rigid flying object—reminiscent of an arrow—traversing my field of view at close proximity.
Initial Observation
As I was driving, I noticed a luminous object moving roughly 15 feet in front of me, crossing my line of sight. The craft was characterized by an organic, arrow-like shape with no rigid structural appearance. Its motion was smooth, akin to a gliding paper airplane, with a speed comparable to cruise mode on a drone. The object emitted a green light from its tip and a red light at its rear, enhancing its arrow-like profile.
Auditory Cues
The craft produced a consistent, rhythmic hum reminiscent of a bee but with a deeper tone, similar to a hummingbird’s wingbeat. The sound intensity was comparable to a bass speaker operating at volume level 2 from approximately 20 feet away, suggesting a noticeable acoustic presence.
Flight Path and Contextual Observations
Initially, I observed a commercial airplane approaching an inland airport, which prompted considerations of other aerial activities. As I continued driving, I identified the object as a drone rather than an aircraft, owing to its speed and maneuverability.
Positioning and Movements
-
At the first sighting, the object was at an estimated distance of 50,000 feet and around 10,000 feet in elevation, moving on a descent that suggested a counterclockwise spiral.
-
Over the next 5 to 15 seconds, its bearing shifted from approximately 120° at 45 mph with light traffic, to a new bearing of about 180°, now roughly 3,000 feet away in the 110° direction at 45-50 mph.
-
As I approached, it became increasingly clear that the craft was a drone performing a complex flight pattern. It executed a gentle bank upward from a direction of roughly 70°, at a distance of about 20 feet, moving along an arc spanning from 90° to 160° over a few seconds.
Close Encounter and Detailed Description
- At approximately 15 feet distance and bearing 110°, I recognized the object as “the drone”—an arrow-shaped entity with illuminated green tip and red tail lights
