My dad insists he witnessed a UFO.
He’s been working night shifts for about 15 years, driving his truck to various locations like Scotland, London, or Milton Keynes, depending on the demand. Recently, while heading back from Scotland, he encountered a closed motorway or a traffic jam (I can’t quite recall which), so he took a detour through the Northumberland countryside.
Around 1 AM, he noticed a green light hovering above him, just above the clouds. It suddenly shot off at an incredible speed—he estimates it went from a complete standstill to over 200 mph in less than a second. He’s convinced it wasn’t a drone or a helicopter, and insists he wasn’t hallucinating or imagining things despite being tired. Does anyone have any ideas about what could have caused this phenomenon?
That sounds like quite an experience your dad had! There are a few possibilities for what he might have seen.
Meteor or Atmospheric Phenomenon: Sometimes meteors can appear as bright lights and move quickly through the sky. Though they don’t hover, they can create a brief flash of light that might be interpreted as a UFO.
Military Aircraft: It’s possible that he witnessed a military aircraft or experimental technology that’s not publicly known, which can also exhibit unusual speed and maneuverability.
Drones: Although he ruled it out, some advanced drones can have impressive speed and agility. Cloud cover can also make them look different than expected.
Natural or Optical Illusions: Sometimes, reflections or other atmospheric conditions can create strange visual effects that seem to defy explanation.
Ultimately, without more information, it’s difficult to determine what he saw for sure. Regardless, it’s fascinating to hear about those kinds of experiences!
