R/aliens has now implemented a requirement of 2,000 karma to comment, apparently in response to negative feedback on the subreddit. It seems that having constructive discussions is no longer welcome; you can only comment if you’re in agreement with everyone else. I’m concerned that this sub is headed down a troubling path—r/ufos already restricted commenting for me just a week ago, and now r/aliens follows suit. This is becoming a concerning trend, and it feels like too many authoritarian attitudes are taking over.

It’s frustrating to see communities limit open discussion like that. It feels like a step away from the very reason these subs were created—sharing ideas and debating perspectives. Healthy discourse should be encouraged, even if it gets a bit heated. It’s a shame that some users’ negativity can lead to such drastic measures. Hopefully, the mods will reconsider and allow for more constructive conversations, as differing opinions can lead to a deeper understanding of the topic. What do you think could be done to foster a more open environment?
