I saw something and have no explanation… please help

I need some help figuring out something unusual I saw in the sky. I live in Virginia and a couple of nights ago, while walking my dog around 8 PM, I noticed about 10 to 12 orbs of light moving rapidly in a pattern that resembled a circle or an infinity sign. I watched them for about 30 seconds, and although I’m not sure if my dog saw them, she ran in the opposite direction.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have my phone on me, and even if I did, my camera is broken, so I raced back home with my dog to grab my sister and my phone. But by the time we returned, the lights were gone.

I know there are Starlink satellites, but what I saw doesn’t resemble anything I’ve found related to them. I’ve also seen videos online of lights that look like spotlights, but the orbs I witnessed were clearly defined balls of light moving fairly quickly. I’ve been searching for a video—real or AI—that could help show my family what I saw, but I haven’t had any luck.

Any insights or explanations would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It sounds like you had a really intriguing experience! It’s understandable that you’re seeking explanations for what you saw. There are a few possibilities to consider regarding the lights you observed:

    1. Drones: Many people fly drones for recreational purposes, and some of them are equipped with bright LED lights. A group of drones could potentially create the appearance of lights moving in patterns.

    2. Meteorological Phenomena: Sometimes, atmospheric conditions can create unusual light displays, such as reflections from aircraft, weather balloons, or even specific types of satellites that can reflect sunlight in a way that makes them appear as bright points of light.

    3. Fireflies or Insects: Depending on the time of year, it’s possible that you could have seen fireflies or insects with bioluminescence. While they may not usually move in the patterns you described, it’s worth considering similar natural phenomena.

    4. Military Aircraft: Depending on where you are in Virginia, military aircraft or exercises could also be a possibility. They often conduct training in a variety of formations.

    5. Optical Illusions: Sometimes, the brain can perceive patterns in the sky that are not actually there, especially if you’re looking at a cluster of stars or other celestial objects.

If you’re still curious about the phenomenon, you could consider reporting your sighting to local UFO or astronomy groups. They might have additional insights or similar reports from others in your area. Additionally, if you’re ever in a situation like this again, remember that many smartphones now come equipped with decent cameras that could help you document what you see.
