Possible “Drone” Sighting in North Carolina – February 23, 2025

Post Overview – I’ve been a longtime lurker on this forum, but this is my first post. Though I’m from Virginia, I’m currently visiting family in Wilson County, NC. I’m going to share a brief description of the video and the events leading up to it. I empathize with others who have posted short clips, as it’s challenging to capture these moments on film when they occur so rapidly.
Leading Up to the Sighting – A few hours before the clip was recorded, I was at home alone. The other three family members had run some errands and mentioned that they spotted something hovering above the farm from a distance of a few miles. Curious, I was disappointed that none of them recorded it when it allegedly flew at a low altitude right before they arrived home.
Moments Before Recording – Shortly after my relatives returned, my aunt, who was outside playing Pokemon Go, called me to look outside as it was making “another pass” over the farm. When I went out, I saw what appeared to be a “drone” directly overhead at what seemed to be a low height. However, I couldn’t discern any aircraft structure. It had two white strobe lights on either side, with red and green lights alternating on the front and back. Its sound was unlike any aircraft I’ve encountered—there were no rotors or turbines but rather a low-frequency “whirring” noise, which you can clearly hear in the video since it’s quite quiet out here in the countryside.
During the Clip – Unfortunately, I didn’t capture footage of the “drone” earlier and the clip is rather short. The video shows the light pattern of the “drone” as it flew to the NNW from my location. I believe the audio is the key aspect of this clip. You can hear my aunt say, “so it just filmed me out here playing Pokemon Go”—apologies for that, she wasn’t aware I was trying to get a quick recording of the “drone.” Other than her comment, the only sound you hear is from the craft itself.
Final Thoughts – I’m hesitant to make any assumptions about the origin of this craft. Honestly, I have no idea what I witnessed, which is part of why I wanted to share this clip with you all. I never imagined I would capture something worth sharing, but here it is. If anyone recognizes this as a common drone or another type of aircraft, please share your thoughts. Regardless, what I saw was unusual enough that I wanted to reach out for insights from the community.
