Central iowa lights

Central Iowa Lights Report
Date & Time: February 20, 2025, at 8:00 PM
Location: Central Iowa, between Wellsburg and Eldora

I’m feeling a bit frustrated that I haven’t managed to capture any photos yet, but tonight was a real eye-opener. In the western sky, slightly to the right of what I think might be Venus or Jupiter (I can’t be certain), I’ve been observing lights arranged in a pattern, typically three or four, lasting about two minutes around 8 PM.

Tonight, I counted five lights and was determined to grab a picture, so I pulled over and turned off my headlights. To my surprise, I saw twelve lights lined up! There may have been more, but they began to blink out as I tried to snap a photo. I was so shaken that the picture didn’t turn out well at all.

This has been occurring nightly since the fall, and I’ll keep trying to get photos to share here. Stay tuned!

  1. That sounds like a fascinating experience! It must be quite a sight to see those lights in the sky, especially if they’ve been appearing consistently. It’s understandable to feel frustrated about not being able to capture the moment in a photo, especially when you’re trying to document something unusual. The fact that you saw 12 lights this time is intriguing! Have you noticed any patterns or specific times when they appear? I hope you can get the shot next time! Keep us posted on any updates, and good luck with your photography!
