Unexplained Aerial Encounters Increase Over U.S. Military Zones, Including Collision with Fighter Aircraft
In recent months, the skies over the southwestern United States have become the focal point of a series of unusual aerial incidents, prompting concern among military officials and aviation experts alike. Most notably, a recent collision between a U.S. Air Force fighter jet and an unidentified aerial object has heightened questions about the nature and origin of these mysterious entities.
A Confrontation in the Sky: The January Incident
During a routine training exercise over Arizona in January, an F-16 Viper jet experienced a midair collision with an unidentified object described by officials as an “orange-white uncrewed aerial system” (UAS). The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the object struck the canopy of the jet— the transparent shield protecting the pilot’s face. Although details about the extent of damage remain undisclosed, this incident marked a rare and alarming event in military aviation history. It was just one of four separate drone encounters reported on the same day within the restricted airspace.
An Escalating Pattern of Unexplained Encounters
Since 2020, military pilots operating over Arizona have consistently reported encounters with unusual aerial phenomena. Many of these sightings have been cataloged as drones; however, a closer examination reveals numerous anomalies that challenge conventional explanation. These include:
- Metallic spheres moving in coordinated groups
- Silver UAS flying in tight formations at altitudes around 20,000 feet
- Fast-moving objects accelerating past Mach 0.75 (~500 mph) at approximately 33,000 feet
For context, consumer-grade drones typically operate at much lower altitudes and speeds, rarely surpassing 45 knots (about 52 mph). The observed speeds and altitudes of these unidentified objects suggest capabilities beyond commercially available technology.
Historical Sightings and Ongoing Investigations
Notable past reports include incidents such as two F-35 pilots near Casa Grande on March 25, 2021, who observed a large white UAS hovering at 24,000 feet—either resembling a small aircraft or a sizable drone. Additionally, other pilots have reported glowing blue-green objects at 36,000 feet within commercial airspace, an area heavily trafficked by civilian flights.
Luis Elizondo, a former Pentagon UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) investigator, has pointed out that such sightings are frequent, particularly around the Arizona-Mexico border. Some experts
