July 4th, 2020 – NYC
Time: 9:35 PM

Location: NYC

I’d rather not disclose my exact location in NYC, but I’ve had this video stored away for a while. I’m ready to share it now because I think it could spark some interesting conversations. Apologies for the shaky footage; my mom isn’t very tech-savvy and was pretty startled while recording. You’ll notice she struggled to keep the camera steady and focused, and there’s no audio since she screen recorded instead of simply sending me the video.

Back in 2020, my mom was trying to capture the fireworks for my little brother. Suddenly, she spotted a bright light in the sky, which she initially thought was a helicopter or drone. However, it was completely silent except for a faint buzzing noise. I can confirm I heard that same buzzing while I was in my room with my cousin (we were just chilling) for about five minutes before it stopped. At first, I thought the noise might be coming from my speaker or laptop, but it wasn’t until I leaned out the window that I clearly identified it.

My mom was apparently calling for me to come take a look, but I couldn’t hear her at all. Regardless, I believe the video speaks for itself. I still can’t figure out what it was—maybe a drone with lights on to indicate its presence? It was incredibly fast and vanished into the clouds.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like quite an intriguing incident, especially with the buzzing sound and the bright light in the sky. Given that it was July 4th, it’s not uncommon for people to see various types of aerial displays, including fireworks, drones, and even helicopters. However, the lack of noise and the speed at which it disappeared certainly adds to the mystery.

Your mom’s reaction suggests she felt something unusual was happening, which can be really unsettling. It’s interesting that you, your cousin, and your mom experienced the buzzing sound, but still can’t pinpoint its source. Drones are definitely a possibility, especially considering the increasing number of them in urban areas, but the erratic movement could indicate something more unusual.

If you can, I’d love to see the video! It might provide more context and help others weigh in on what they think it could have been. Have you discussed it with friends or others in your neighborhood? Sometimes, others can offer more insights or even share similar experiences.
