With average temperatures plunging between 50 and 70 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, this continent has no permanent residents and houses up to 90 percent of the world’s freshwater. Spanning 5.5 million square miles, approximately 98 percent of which is covered in ice, Antarctica is a land no one can claim as their own due to the 1951 Antarctic Treaty, which prohibits territorial ownership and restricts activities to peaceful scientific endeavors. Each year, between 1,000 and 5,000 scientists and military personnel operate from various bases, while around 40,000 tourists visit. Alongside the Arctic, Antarctica is rife with conspiracy theories, from secret Nazi bases to alleged entrances to a hollow Earth. Regardless of these myths, the continent boasts a fascinating history of UFO sightings. This video explores twelve significant UFO encounters in Antarctica, dating back 75 years and including sightings, landings, and humanoid encounters, with several representing some of the most well-documented cases in the field of ufology.

DATE: February 23, 1948
LOCATION: Chilean Base Arturo Prat, Antarctica
“WE HAVE PHOTOS TO VERIFY OUR EXPERIENCE.” On this date, Captain Augusto Vars Orrego of the Chilean Navy reported witnessing flying saucers rotating at incredible speeds above the base.
