As someone deeply invested in understanding human behavior and technology, I’ve come to realize that the current state of ufology is more about sensationalism than genuine inquiry. It frustrates me to see subreddits like this one promoting individuals who exploit your passion for science and the unknown to profit off your confirmation biases, while anyone offering a logical critique becomes a target for ridicule.

Why are figures like Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp still celebrated here? If you truly care about the integrity of ufology, these are not the people you should admire. And let’s not even get started on Bob Lazar and Travis Walton, who are continually revisited despite the well-documented issues surrounding their claims. My skepticism extends to the slew of modern frauds that have emerged since 2017; many of whom I encountered years ago on dial-up internet.

In my opinion, Stanton Friedman was the last authentic ufologist. He stood by his qualifications without any caveats, and he was genuinely engaged with his audience—I know this because I called the phone number he shared at the end of his documentary, and he answered. That era of authenticity is long gone. Today, extraordinary claims are met with little scrutiny, and critical thinking seems to be a relic of the past. I find myself nostalgically longing for the days when reporters donned tin foil hats simply to discuss the topic.

Have you ever loved a spot that felt exclusive, only to watch it become overrun once word got out? That’s how I feel about ufology now. It’s disheartening to hear discussions about element 115, a term that originated in a sci-fi novel well before Lazar’s infamous 1989 interview. I’ve been fascinated by science since childhood, and I’ve spent my life in tech. Yet, here we are, with characters like Corbell, Knapp, and Lazar getting airtime on shows like Joe Rogan’s without anyone bothering to question their claims thoroughly. After just five minutes of research, serious concerns about their credibility become apparent.

Since Stanton’s passing, the absence of a rigorous scientific voice has allowed all sorts of fabrications to flourish. Now, anyone with a military background seems able to share dubious stories without any substantial evidence, only to be lauded as the next great authority in the field.

I may be venting here, but I believe there are still a few genuine ufologists left who understand this disappointment. This message is for you. Let’s hold onto the hope for a revival of authentic research in ufology. Cheers to those who share this vision!

The State of Ufology: A Critique on Current Trends It’s time to face a difficult truth: ufology is dead, and critical thinking never really took hold within the community.
