Due to its extreme conditions, it has no permanent inhabitants. The Antarctic Treaty of 1951, signed by multiple nations, prohibits private ownership and dedicates the continent (which spans 5.5 million square miles, making it the fifth largest) solely for peaceful, scientific exploration and research. Antarctica holds approximately 90% of the world’s freshwater and is 98% covered by ice. Despite its inhospitable environment, 1,000 to 5,000 scientists and military personnel work at various research stations each year, alongside around 40,000 tourists. Like the Arctic, Antarctica is the subject of numerous conspiracy theories, including secret Nazi bases, entrances to a hollow Earth, and lost ancient civilizations. However, what remains indisputable is Antarctica’s intriguing history of UFO sightings. This video explores twelve well-documented UFO cases from Antarctica, spanning back 75 years, featuring sightings, landings, and alien encounters—some of the best-verified incidents in ufology’s history.

WE HAVE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE. One of the earliest documented sightings occurred on February 23, 1948, at the Chilean base in Arturo Prat. Witnesses included Captain Augusto Vars Orrego of the Chilean Navy, who reported, “During the bright Antarctic night, we observed flying saucers, one hovering above the other, spinning at incredible speeds. We have photographs to back up our claims.” When UFO investigator Donald Keyhoe reached out to the Chilean Embassy, he learned the images were classified and remain unreleased to this day.

AN UNFAMILIAR PRESENCE. On January 8, 1956, four scientists located at the Chilean base on Robertson Island, Weddell Sea, reported seeing two enormous, metallic, cigar-shaped objects hovering vertically above them. They observed these crafts for hours, capturing numerous photographs as the Geiger counter on-site recorded unusually high radiation levels. The objects displayed remarkable aerial maneuvers, flashing bright colors, and at one point, one descended to a lower altitude after a scientist signaled with a mirror. They remained in sight for nearly an entire day.

PANIC AND FEAR. On December 11, 1958, amid a surge of sightings near McMurdo Sound Base, AQI Roger Benson, driving a snow tractor, spotted a massive metallic craft resting on the ice approximately 1,500 feet away. As he approached, he saw a strange humanoid figure with an oversized head nearby. Overcome with fear, he fled the scene. Unbeknownst to him, many other observers were monitoring UFOs in the area, even capturing some on radar. Rear Admiral George F. Dufek, then in charge of the base, reportedly stated, “I believe in UFOs,” suggesting they might be piloted by “intelligent beings.”

A SHINY ANOMALY. On June 7, 1962, Navy scientists stationed at Hallett Station spotted an exceptionally bright light in the sky, far more intense than the brightest star. On closer inspection with binoculars, they identified the light as a solid disc-shaped object with a reflective gold surface. Although the object demonstrated movement and hovering capabilities, Project Blue Book dismissed the sighting as a misidentified planet (Jupiter), ignoring the expertise of the trained scientists.

UFOs MONITORING A NUCLEAR TEST. On July 9, 1962, in a flagrant disregard for environmental

UFOs in Antarctica: Twelve Documented Encounters UFOs in Antarctica: Twelve Documented Encounters By Preston Dennett Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, driest, highest, and most isolated continent on the planet, with average temperatures plummeting between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit below zero.
