I want to clarify upfront that I do not support Peter Thiel’s views. However, I couldn’t help but notice three consecutive posts criticizing Thiel on r/UFOs, all posted within a single hour this morning.

Regardless of personal opinions about Thiel, it’s worth questioning whether these posts are part of a coordinated effort to sway community opinion or derail genuine discourse.

Having spent considerable time observing these forums, I’ve appreciated their acceptance of various unconventional ideas. However, recently, I’ve noticed an influx of users who seem to lack substantive knowledge about UFO research but express impatience with what they perceive to be stagnation in the field. Comments like “I’m done” or “I knew this topic was nonsense all along” are becoming common. While we have made significant strides over the past seven years, the sudden barrage of negativity—whether from bots or real users—gives an impression that the field is stagnant, overly complicated, or even fraudulent. This kind of discrediting, more intense than I’ve seen in the past, coincides with increased public attention to these discussions. Such hostility could dissuade open-minded individuals from engaging with UFO topics.

The real issue isn’t if there are bot activity and orchestrated comments, but how many there are. Sure, some of the agitation may stem from newcomers to the frequent UFO “hype cycles,” who now feel disillusioned. I would estimate that about 60% of these frustrated posts come from those recent arrivals. But the remaining 40% is troubling, as it could undermine the discourse surrounding UFO research. This dismissive attitude toward the entire field risks throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

An even more pressing concern is the recent targeted criticism aimed at individuals like Jake Barber and Jesse Michels, both of whom have made noteworthy contributions to UFO discussions. In particular, Jesse went from being a respected figure within the community to being labeled a “shill” almost overnight, despite his significant knowledge and commitment. He recently organized a debate between Mick West and Marik von Rennenkampff, showcasing real dedication to fostering constructive dialogue. Watch the debate here.

Additionally, whistleblower Michael Herrera—whose credibility was supported by Jake Barber—has commented on the growing “anti-UFO” sentiment during a Q&A livestream on the Cosmic Road YouTube channel. (For clarification, this is indeed the genuine Herrera, as he has frequently appeared on this platform.)

In my perspective, aggression toward UFO topics has escalated dramatically following the Jake Barber story. We need to ponder why this is happening.

Here are a few key considerations:

Reddit is not apolitical. It reflects various ideological biases, and even opinions we

Worrying Shift in UFO Subreddits: Is There an Underlying Agenda?
