I use several astronomy apps on my phone to identify stars, and I even took an astronomy class in college just for kicks. I&#8217;m not trying to claim I&#8217;m an expert\u2014I definitely don\u2019t know everything! But I have NEVER encountered anything like this before.  <\/p>\n<p>While my partner and I were out walking our dog for the last time last night, I was doing my usual stargazing as we chatted. Suddenly, I looked up and spotted an incredibly bright, highly saturated orange orb. It was far larger and brighter than any other star in the area. I immediately shone my flashlight on it and exclaimed, \u201cUh, what is that?!\u201d Before my partner could even turn to look, it vanished!  <\/p>\n<p>It all happened so quickly, but it was hovering silently for a moment before it darted off over the horizon at an incredible speed\u2014much faster than anything I\u2019ve ever seen. There\u2019s no chance it was a commercial drone; it was just WAY too fast! I\u2019ve never seen a shooting star or a comet in person, only in videos, so who knows? But this was so radiant, completely silent, stationary until it suddenly took off\u2014and then it was simply gone.  <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve heard about the surge in similar sightings lately, and as someone who\u2019s always been fascinated by space and the unknown, this was an unforgettable experience.
